Robinhood Markets ($HOOD) operates a mobile-first financial services platform that enables customers to trade equities, options, futures (including event contracts), and cryptocurrencies.
HOOD also offers retirement investing, a digital investment advisory product (Robinhood Strategies), subscription (Robinhood Gold), cash/spending products, and credit cards.
HOOD makes money primarily through three categories:
Transaction-based revenues, driven by trading activity across asset classes;
Net interest revenues, driven by interest-earning assets such as margin loans, cash/cash equivalents, cash sweep balances, and securities lending;
Other revenues, notably Robinhood Gold subscription revenue.
In terms of its operating model, Robinhood acts as an agent, routing options/ crypto/ equities trades to market makers or exchanges for execution. For certain crypto transactions, it matches orders using an internal matching engine.
