The Bank of Japan (BOJ), Japan's central bank, holds its next Monetary Policy Meeting on 29 and 30 October 2026. The decision comes on Friday 30 October in Tokyo, which is still Thursday evening in New York.

The Bank's policy interest rate is 1.25%, set on 18 September 2026. This guide lists every meeting date the Bank has published for the rest of 2026 and for 2027, with what is released at each one and when.

What is the Bank of Japan meeting schedule? The Bank of Japan publishes the dates of its Monetary Policy Meetings a year at a time. It holds eight two-day meetings a year. Each one ends with a decision on the policy interest rate, the Bank's main interest rate.

  • The next meeting is on 29 and 30 October 2026. It is one of four meetings a year that also carry the Outlook Report, the Bank's quarterly assessment of economic activity and prices.

  • The decision has no fixed clock time. At the six meetings held so far in 2026, the meeting ended between 11:39 and 12:12 Japan Standard Time (JST).

  • JST is 13 or 14 hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET) in the US, so a noon decision in Tokyo lands the evening before in New York.

What happens at a Bank of Japan meeting?

The Bank's Policy Board has nine members. At each Monetary Policy Meeting they discuss the economy and set the policy interest rate by majority vote.

The rate is a guideline for the uncollateralised overnight call rate. That is the rate banks charge each other for one-night loans without collateral.

The Bank publishes the decision "immediately after the meeting", in its words.

Five items matter. The statement and the press conference come on decision day at every meeting. The Outlook Report comes at four meetings a year. The Summary of Opinions and the Minutes follow weeks later.

  • Statement on Monetary Policy. It gives the decision, the vote count and the Bank's reasons.

  • Governor's press conference. The Governor explains the decision at 15:30 JST on decision day. At the 16 June meeting a Deputy Governor stood in.

  • Outlook Report. The Bank's outlook for economic activity and prices, with its view of the risks.

  • Summary of Opinions. A summary of the opinions at the meeting, released at 08:50 JST on a date the calendar sets.

  • Minutes. The full record of the meeting, also released at 08:50 JST on a set date.
